Anant Pai known as Uncle Pai is a very popular name among children. He was born on 17th September 1929 in Karkala in Karnataka. He is particularly famous for his Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle series comic books. Orphaned when he was very young, he did his early schooling from Karnataka. He held dual degrees from the University of Bombay. He has also written several comic strips such as Ramu and Shamu and Funland. He has been honoured with several awards and was also honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the First Indian Comic Convention in 2011. He breathed his last on 24th February 2011.
